Choosing the right blank hoodie is like choosing the right canvas for a painting. The art might be beautiful, but if the surface doesn't hold it properly, the whole piece fails.
Why the Blank Matters
Most customers never think about the blank — the base garment before any design is printed on it. But it's the foundation everything else is built on. The weight, the weave, the cotton quality, the construction — these determine how the hoodie feels, how it fits, how it ages, and how well it holds the print.
We tested over a dozen blank options before choosing ours. Here's what we were looking for.
Weight
We settled on 8.4 ounces — a midweight that balances warmth and wearability. Lighter hoodies (5-6 oz) feel thin and cheap. Heavier hoodies (10+ oz) are stiff and hot. The 8.4 oz sweet spot gives you substance without bulk. It layers well in autumn and winter without being unwearable in spring.
Fabric
80/20 ring-spun cotton and polyester blend. The ring-spun cotton provides softness, breathability, and the kind of hand-feel that makes you want to keep wearing it. The 20% polyester adds structure, moisture management, and resistance to shrinking. It's the best of both worlds — natural comfort with engineered durability.
Construction
Double-needle stitching at the cuffs and hem for reinforcement. A three-panel hood with a matching drawcord. Front pouch pocket. The seams are set for longevity, not just appearance. You can feel the quality in the way it holds together after months of washing.
The Fit
Classic fit with dropped shoulders. The shoulder seam sits slightly below the natural shoulder line, creating a relaxed silhouette that reads as intentional, not sloppy. The body has room without excess fabric. The sleeves are set for comfortable movement.
Print Compatibility
Not every fabric holds every print method well. The tight weave of ring-spun cotton creates a smoother surface for printing, which means finer detail and better colour vibrancy. The brushstroke textures, the gold accents, the subtle gradients in our designs — all of these require a print surface that doesn't absorb ink unevenly or distort fine lines.
Why We Don't Cut Corners
A cheaper blank would save us money per unit and allow us to price lower. But a cheap blank undermines everything we stand for. You can't put the word PERSEVERANCE on a hoodie that falls apart after three washes. The material has to match the message.
