Your hoodie is built to last. But how you wash and dry it determines whether it lasts two years or ten. Here's the complete care guide.
Washing
Turn inside out. This is the single most important step. Turning your hoodie inside out before washing protects the printed design from friction against other garments and the drum of the washing machine. The brushstroke art faces inward, shielded from abrasion.
Wash cold. Cold water prevents shrinking, preserves colour vibrancy, and reduces energy consumption. Hot water is the enemy of both fabric and print. Set your machine to cold or cool — never warm, never hot.
Gentle cycle. Use a gentle or delicate cycle. The reduced agitation is easier on the fabric and the print. If your machine has a casual or permanent press setting, that works too.
Mild detergent. Skip the heavy-duty detergents and anything with bleach or optical brighteners. A mild, colour-safe detergent cleans effectively without attacking the dye or the print. Liquid detergent is gentler than powder, which can leave residue.
Drying
Tumble dry low or hang dry. High heat is the second biggest threat to your hoodie after hot water. Tumble dry on the lowest heat setting, and remove the hoodie while it's still slightly damp — it'll finish drying naturally without the stress of extended heat exposure.
Alternatively, hang dry. Lay it flat on a drying rack or drape it over a line. Avoid hanging it from the shoulders on a hanger while wet — the weight of the water can stretch the shoulder area.
What to Avoid
No bleach. Ever. Not even colour-safe bleach. Bleach attacks fabric fibres and can destroy print adhesion.
No ironing on the design. If you need to de-wrinkle, turn the hoodie inside out and iron on low heat on the reverse side. Never press an iron directly onto the printed design.
No dry cleaning. The solvents used in dry cleaning can damage the print and alter the fabric's hand-feel. Your hoodie is machine washable — dry cleaning is unnecessary.
Storage
Fold, don't hang. Hanging a hoodie long-term can stretch the shoulders and distort the shape. Fold it neatly and store it in a drawer or on a shelf. If you must hang it, use a wide, padded hanger and don't leave it for extended periods.
The Reward
A well-cared-for ring-spun cotton hoodie gets softer with every wash while maintaining its shape and colour. Follow these steps and your hoodie will age like the philosophy it carries — growing richer with time.
